Everyone wants to go to Las Vegas, but not everyone has the money to afford a room at the Bellagio, Venetian, or the Palazzo.
At the same time, nobody wants to stay at a substandard hotel or one in a shady area of the city. There are options for those wanting a cheap place to stay and a nice room to stay in.
Orleans Casino and Hotel
The Orleans Casino and Hotel is one of the better off strip casinos. In addition to your typical spread of casino table games, this casino also boasts a strong poker room. It is one of the few casinos in town that regularly spreads Omaha Hi-Lo and one of the only casinos that offer weekly tournaments in games other than No-Limit Holdem.
Other features of the casino include a kids arcade, movie theatre, several restaurants, and a convention center. The rooms at the Orleans rival those of some of the strip hotels, but at greatly reduced rates. Depending on the time of year, you can find most standard rooms in the $35 - $60 range. If you go there during the Orleans Open poker event, you usually can find rooms around $49.
4 Queens Hotel and Casino
The 4 Queens Hotel and Casino is located in historic downtown Las Vegas on Fremont Street. The casino is very standard with the normal spread of table games, slot machines, and video poker. The casino does not boast a poker room, but does have a couple of nice restaurants and even a Subway for those eating healthier.
At first glance, you would not think the 4 Queens to be a very nice hotel, but appearances are deceiving. Their rooms are among some of the nicest in downtown Las Vegas. Rooms include pillow top beds and Plasma Televisions. The hotel went under a renovation in the last two years and the results are some fantastic rooms.
Rates for the 4 Queens vary depending on the time of the year. During the winter months, rooms are as cheap as $20 per night. A look at their website shows rooms during the summer starting at $48 during the week and $78 on the weekend.
The only disadvantage to the 4 Queens is that you are not near the strip. You will need a car or cab to get there. However, Fremont Street is home to several casino's, including Binions. Binions was the former home of the World Series of Poker and is where the famous Wall of Champions is located. Another attraction is the "Fremont Street Experience", which is a nightly light show and video extravaganza that occurs on the canopy encasing Fremont.
I4Vegas.com
Another resource for finding a cheap rate for Vegas hotels is i4vegas.com. I4vegas is a website where travelers can find deals for hotels that you cannot find on other hotel sites. For example, some casinos will have special offers for free nights, coupon books, other specials that other sites will not make customers aware of. Since they deal only with Vegas, they can sometimes get you a better deal, or at least the same deal but with perks.
Long Term Stay Option
Some people want to go out to Vegas for an extended period and don't want to blow most of their bankroll on a room to sleep in. Crestwood Suites on Flamingo is a great option for those that want to be close to the action. Crestwood is approximately 1 mile from the strip and usually has rooms for as cheap as $49 per night. Also, the rooms are complete with free high speed internet and a full kitchen. It can serve as one's home away from home while in Vegas.
Finding a good deal in Vegas doesn't require that you stay at a Super 8 or on the wrong side of town. Knowing where to go for an inexpensive, quality room will leave more money for you to donate to the casino, I mean more money to enjoy Vegas with.
